چکیده

Many connectionist learning models are implemented using a gradient descent in a least squares error function of the output and teacher signal. The present model Fneralizes. in particular. back-propagation [1] by using Minkowski-r power metrics. For small r's a "city-block" error metric is approximated and for large r's the "maximum" or "supremum" metric is approached. while for r=2 the standard backpropagation model results. An implementation of Minkowski-r back-propagation is described. and several experiments are done which show that different values of r may be desirable for various purposes. Different r values may be appropriate for the reduction of the effects of outliers (noise). modeling the input space with more compact clusters. or modeling the statistics of a particular domain more naturally or in a way that may be more perceptually or psychologically meaningful (e.g. speech or vision).

d-NARMA neural networks: a connectionist extension of ARARMA models

Despite their theoretical limitations, ARIMA models are widely used in real-life forecasting tasks. Parzen has proposed an extension of ARIMA models: ARARMA models. ARARMA models consist of an AR model followed by an ARMA model. Following Parzen approach,-NARMA neural network are MLP, the units of which are simple non-linear ARMA-based models (-NARMA units). They are a non-linear extension of A...

Music and natural image processing share a common feature-integration rule

The world is rich in sensory information, and the challenge for any neural sensory system is to piece together the diverse messages from large arrays of feature detectors. In vision and auditory research, there has been speculation about the rules governing combination of signals from different neural channels: e.g. linear (city-block) addition, Euclidian (energy) summation, or a maximum rule. ...

Translation Surfaces of the Third Fundamental Form in Lorentz-Minkowski Space

In this paper we study translation surfaces with the non-degenerate third fundamental form in Lorentz- Minkowski space $mathbb{L}^{3}$. As a result, we classify translation surfaces satisfying an equation in terms of the position vector field and the Laplace operator with respect to the third fundamental form $III$ on the surface.

A comparative study of trunk proprioception between patients with chronic non-specific low back pain and discopathic low back pain

Introduction: Low back pain is one of the most common disorders in modern society. Disturbed properioception can be a possible cause of low back pain and can cause recurrence of low back pain. Previous studies have shown that low back pain reduces proprioception due to instability in the low back. Since the degenerative process of disc herniation is one of the important factors in exacerbating ...

δ-NARMA neural networks: a new approach to signal prediction

This article presents a new connectionist architecture for stochastic univariate signal prediction. After a review of related statistical and connectionist models pointing out their advantages and limitations, we introduce the-NARMA model as the simplest non-linear extension of ARMA models. These models then provide the units of a MLP-like neural network: the-NARMA neural network. The associate...
